About Me!
I started dancing when I was 28. The reason for this was because my 9 year old daughter wanted to start dancing. She used to watch the old style Come Dancing with Terry Wogan and she announced one day that she wanted to learn to dance. My mom phoned around a few dance schools and she soon found the Broadway Dance Centre. This was the only school that offered dance classes for children and adults. So one Saturday morning we ventured along and Lucy entered her first class. however, she was very slow at picking things up so my mom suggested to me that I join the class, dancing the boys steps to enable us to go home and practice together and then she would improve a lot quicker. Somehow it didn’t work out like that because around 6 weeks after joining we were told that there was a medallist competition coming up in a few weeks and that we would be expected to enter. Frances then ventured to tell me that I would be expected to dance as a girl. So here I go back to square 1. I must now reverse everything I had learnt, which wasn’t much.
I entered the competition and my event --pre bronze up to 34 Years ladies-- had a vast amount of entries. I danced my first heat thinking that would be it until the Latin started. The numbers were called out and I got through to the second round. Surely it would be over now, but no I kept getting recalled. Every time I danced I got amore and more confident. I got as far as the semis in both Ballroom and Latin. After the first competition it got me totally hooked. I couldn’t get enough of the dancing.
After 12 months of dancing I decided to get a dancing partner to dance in open competition. Over my competing years I had 3 dance partnerships and I worked my way up the ranks from beginners to pre champ. in 1995 when I split from my last dance partner I approached Frances and said that I would like to train to be a teacher as ale dance partners f a decent standard were few and far between. I remember standing on that stage and Frances telling me that she didn’t think I had the right mental attitude to achieve that goal. She decided to give me a chance. Since that day I decided to prove her wrong and I think that she will now agree that I had achieved that goal. I absolutely love teaching people to dance. I hope to go on teaching under Frances watchful look for many years to come.
now a bit about me. I started running my own company making curtains and soft furnishings about three years ago and that is going from strength to strength. Having he freedom for myself allows me to be very flexible with arranging private lessons as i can book them to suit peoples needs. I don’t have to fit around my 9-5 job. I only need to fit around my 24-7 job. My nine year old daughter who started the ball rolling all those years ago is now a mother of two beautiful children, a boy and a girl, making me a grandmother.
